Tori at TAY: Making an Impact on Community Outreach and Communications

A dedicated peer support worker with TAY for over three years, Tori has been the Instagram team lead for the TAY program since 2022. Beyond utilizing her lived-in experience in the role, she has incorporated her educational background and personal skillset in professional communications to further her work and TAY’s outreach and communication efforts.

Since joining the team and after establishing an updated TAY brand kit, the TAY’s Instagram page has gradually grown by 450+ followers. As the senior peer on the TAY team, Tori regularly works alongside the TAY director and coordinator to support with both internal and external communications relating to youth programming, events, general TAY team updates, and more.

As the only current LOFT program with their own specific Instagram page, the TAY team has received continuous positive engagement from both prospective and active TAY clients. TAY clients’ regularly provide positive feedback in vocalizing that they appreciate an accessible and youth friendly pathway to learn more about what’s happening at TAY.

Expertise in Graphic Design & Social Media Marketing

Regularly utilizes Canva premium within TAY for social media marketing purposes and live website page creation.

Formally trained in Adobe Suite through minor in Graphic Design at TMU – proficient in Illustrator, InDesign and Premiere (video editing)

Strong Organization, Creative & Leadership Skills

Natural leadership skills, past experience in management roles in a variety of industries such as retail management. Always eager to take on extra tasks and help create new communications strategies and pathways.

Passionate about making functional internal and external pathways for the benefit of the organization and target audience.

As a current employee with LOFT with three years of experience working with the organization, Tori has had the benefit of learning the ins and outs of LOFT and has been able to keep up to date on their strategic communications plan.

Tori is informed on LOFT’s policies and overall message, and has the advantage of being able to use her perspective as a front line worker to help promote LOFT’s services with intention.

Meet Tori Martin

Tori Martin (she/her) is a recent graduate from TMU with a BA in Professional Communication and a minor in Graphic Design. Throughout her educational pursuits, she developed a passion for community connections through her involvement with extracurricular committees in the TMU ProComm. program and through starting her career as a peer support worker with TAY simultaneously by establishing new creative ideas within the role by utilizing her communications background.

Through finding TAY and her time working with the program, Tori has developed a goal of pursuing a communications/leadership role that has a meaningful message and impact on our community. LOFT’s overarching message of inspiring hope is linear with Tori’s goals.
